Modify Flipper to Only Turn TV On/Off

Flipper is an IR remote and requires direct line of sight to control devices.

Issue:
If the user points Flipper away from the devices, one device may turn on while the other turns off, causing them to be out of sync.

Solution: Modify Flipper to Control Only the TV Power

📌 Steps to Modify Flipper

Please make sure that both the TV and STB are close to one another and in direct line of sight.  We need to be at least 4-5 feet away so the IR infrared signal spreads out.

Also allow at least 5 seconds for the devices ot fully power down before pressing on/off again.  They are not made for rapid on/off cycles.

(1) Set TV Only Power Mode:

  • Press and hold ADD until the light turns solid, then enter 999

(2) Check Standby Mode on STB:

  • Some STBs (Set-Top Boxes) have a Standby Mode that can interfere with power settings.
  • If your STB has this feature, disable it.
  • See Standby Mode guides for Dish and ATT for details.

✔ Now, Flipper will only turn the TV on/off!
✔ STB power will remain unaffected.
