How to Use DirectTV with a Genie Box

If your Flipper remote isn’t working with your Genie box, it may be set to RF (radio frequency) mode instead of IR (infrared). Follow these steps to ensure proper functionality.

Step 1: Check Basic Requirements

✔ Use the correct remote code: The most common DirectTV remote code is 2324.
✔ Ensure line of sight: The remote must have a clear view of the Genie box.
✔ Stay within range: The remote works best within 4-5 feet of the box.

Step 2: Activate IR Mode on the Genie Box

If your Genie box is in RF mode, it won’t respond to IR signals. To enable IR mode:

  1. Press "Menu" on the DirectTV remote.
  2. Navigate to:
    • Settings → Remote Control → Activate IR
  3. Follow the on-screen instructions.
